  There are 16 "UPACHARAMS" which are to be performed to the Almighty the God. They are "DHYANAM" (thinking of the God), "AAVAHANAM" (making the Almighty), "PAADHYAM" (offering water for the Almighty for cleaning the legs), "ARGHYAM" (offering water to the Almighty for cleaning the hands), "AACHAMANEEYAM" (offering water to the Almighty for cleaning the face) "SNAANAM" (offering water for the Almighty for taking bath), "AACHAMANEEYAM" (offering water for the Almighty for cleaning the face again), "VASTHRAM" (offering clothes for the Almighty  for dressing) "UTHAREEYAM" (offering clothes to the Almighty as upper dressing), "AABHARANAM" (offering jewels to the Almighty), "GHANDAM" (offering sandal paste to the Almighty), "KUMKUMAM" or HARIDHRAA CHOORNAM" (offering kumkum for the Almighty for make-up), "PUSHPA MAALIKA" (offering floral garlands to the Almighty), "ARCHANAM" (offering prayers) "DHOOPAM" (offering scented smokes enriched with ten herbal extracts which is called as Dhasangam which contains Akil, Mukil, Chandanam, Devadhaaru, Saambrani, Kunkiliyam, Karunchandhu.
